Cooking Up a Storm

Thursday as I was perusing the weather forecast I realized that the temps would be cooler and that meant that some heartwarming cooking should be in order. Friday as I was winding things down at work I wrote out what I needed from the grocery, excited that I would actually use part of my weekend doing something productive as opposed to sitting and moping.

Unfortunately, great plans always need to be rearranged when I had finally gotten the gumption to put a few things on Craigslist that I needed to get rid of so I could actually use my garage for my car, as opposed to just storing crap. I got bites on several items quickly and knew that if I wanted these items to sell I would need to organize and pull forward the items so they could be picked up quickly.

I was supposed to go for drinks after work with some coworkers but already had one person coming that evening and didn’t want to rush pulling things out. So I skipped the grocery and headed home. I pulled things out, I stacked crap up and then realized that one box I needed was stacked already so back to unstacking to pull the nuts and bolts out of that box. I threw out a small file cabinet that was falling apart, some deck chairs and a pack of boxes that I knew I would never use.

Once that was all said and done I measured the space to see how much was needed for my car. I also sold several items which is making everything look more promising in my goal of actually parking my car. Then I went to Stacey’s to let her hubby reload Office on my laptop and we ran to Target to pick up a few items.

Saturday I got up and finally got my groceries. And then the cooking commenced. I made Beef Burgundy yesterday and today. . .French Onion Soup. The first time I have made it and I think it turned out okay. So now I have meals ready for the week. And an added bonus? Two of my favorite coworkers will be fed the Beef Burgundy this week since I promise them that I would be bringing lunch in for the three of us.

Even though I have very little counter space, I have managed to prepare these yummy meals. Baking is a bit more difficult though and I am going to have to figure out how to handle that so I can work with the fondant again. Because darn it, I will master the use of fondant.

I have another baby shower coming up, luckily I am only supplying the thumbprint cookies and it is for a coworker so minimal effort in terms of planning and decorating are on the agenda. We have are annual Chili Cookoff for work coming up on Halloween. This year we are also having a dessert decoration contest.

I was in Michael’s today (that place is almost as bad as Target in terms of getting all of my money) and noticed that had a cardboard cupcake tree for Halloween. The temptation to get it and make cute cupcakes is strong. I am going to going to think on that one though. Baking is rough on my back and I have a lot coming up work wise so I may just skip this contest.

I also got a reed diffuser from Bed Bath and Beyond in Christmas Cookie. I love the candles but having a cat sometimes makes lighting candles nerve wracking.  But I am making progress getting rid of the clutter. I am a work in progress and quite frankly, life is too short to be cleaning all of the time!

What you see is what you get; I am a Nashville girl who is single, again. I use the blog to get my inner, tortured, wanna be writer angst out. One day I just may write a book. I have been stumbling through life for 43 years now, I love to cook, read and figure out more embarrassing ways I can either harm myself (thank you hula hoop of 2010 and the case of the thrown back) or just prove how inept I am at household chores and dieting. The people you read about on here are real but most have had their names changed to protect the innocent and not so innocent. And I really should make a list of them so I can remember! Enjoy, read, mock, laugh and comment, it really isn't difficult. Plus, I would prefer reading comments from real people as opposed to the weird spam comments I keep getting. Plus, I will always find the hardest path to follow and take that one, why would anyone want to take the easy way?!
