A New Zip Code

I have been in my new zip code for almost a month now. I have tried on several occasions to post but have been at a loss for words. I am still adjusting to my new surroundings and am finding myself biting my tongue more often than not when it comes to comparing here to Nashville.

My last day in my old office was surreal. I hadn’t been able to really focus on anything for the past couple of weeks and the crying was out of control. I left work later than I had anticipated with a list of things to buy. My first stop was at PetSmart for Wookie’s traveling accessories. Then I wondered aimlessly around Target in the hopes of finding the burner trays to replace so I wouldn’t be charged for those. I bumped into an old friend whom I had seen or talked to in quite some time and since then, we have emailed back and forth. I then ran home to meet Rachel to pick up a replacement glass from her and one last goodbye as well as hugs and kisses from her kids.

Marti had very sweetly offered to come over that night to help me finish up organizing and throwing stuff away. I was pleased with how quickly it all came together and grateful for some last minute help. Of course, my goodbye to Marti couldn’t be complete without a card and a charm from Tiffany. She spoils me so. Of course, I read the card after she left and did my ugly cry.

I didn’t sleep well that night and got up early just staring at the mess that was about to be packed up and moved from my home. The movers did a great job though.

As I got ready to walk out of my apartment one last time, I felt like it was all just a bad dream. That I would wake up soon and that my life wasn’t really turning completely upside down. I got on the floor with Wookie and put his harness and leash on so we could get to the car without me loosing him. I opted not to put him in the carrier because I knew that would stress him out. So I latched him to the seatbelt and left my city.

I was very proud of him during the trip because let’s just put it this way, my cat hasn’t been in a car that long since ten years prior. I rushed as quickly and as safely as I could to my new home in hopes that he wouldn’t stress out. He did end up with very hot ears and sweaty paws.

The movers got everything into my apartment and my parents had said they were spending the night. I, being the child that I can be, gave a look. I relented, knowing that having multiple hands on deck would get everything put away quicker than just depending on me.

Work is going well, it is a different office culture here but the work is interesting. With the exception of a couple of boxes, everything is put up. At this point, I just don’t care.

Of course, up until this weekend it has been bitterly cold. My first weekend here was also my birthday weekend and Stacey and her husband were unable to come visit due to massive snow in Nashville. They came down the following weekend to visit. And thankfully, I am heading back to my home this coming weekend.

Of course, I am battling a cold/bronchitis that has gotten the best of me, so I have been out of commission since Wednesday evening.

The new zip code is going to take some getting used to, I am finding a lot of things that I loved in Nashville are not here as well as my love of Chick Fil A now being just down the road. My new apartment is huge and my brand new bed is like heaven. But I can’t find the joy that I had when I was in Nashville. Here is hoping that it will come to me soon.

Oh and Wookie, who loves everyone except children? He attacks my parents whenever they are here. Needless to say, they aren’t coming around much. . .

What you see is what you get; I am a Nashville girl who is single, again. I use the blog to get my inner, tortured, wanna be writer angst out. One day I just may write a book. I have been stumbling through life for 43 years now, I love to cook, read and figure out more embarrassing ways I can either harm myself (thank you hula hoop of 2010 and the case of the thrown back) or just prove how inept I am at household chores and dieting. The people you read about on here are real but most have had their names changed to protect the innocent and not so innocent. And I really should make a list of them so I can remember! Enjoy, read, mock, laugh and comment, it really isn't difficult. Plus, I would prefer reading comments from real people as opposed to the weird spam comments I keep getting. Plus, I will always find the hardest path to follow and take that one, why would anyone want to take the easy way?!
