Oh Boo Hoo!

Bless John Mayer’s little heart, his feelings are hurt, over a song, written by Taylor Swift, that was released two years ago. Seriously? This is the guy who blasted his indiscretions with other women via Twitter, TMZ and celeb interviews. So Mr. Mayer, completely okay for you to diss Jennifer Aniston who happens to dislike the livestreaming of her life via such public outlets? Or how about describing Jessica Simpson and sex to drugs?

The best part I have read though has to be your dislike of Taylor’s songwriting. Apparently, you can write songs about your life experiences but Taylor Swift cheapens the craft of songwriting doing the same thing. Maybe I just don’t have the skills to understand your line of thought.

Here’s the thing, us creative people happen to be inspired by what goes on in our lives. I have post after post on this very blog discussing the perils of dating, the silly people I come across daily as well as my thoughts on current events. This is life, I don’t write fairy tales but I also have the luxury of providing aliases for the majority of them. Sure, some of my close friends know who is who but I don’t broadcast it. And quite frankly, if someone were to turn the tables on me I wouldn’t be pissed.

So bless your pee pickin heart, let me dig up some of that southeast TN girl and provide you with my opinion. . .after dating my fair share of assholes, I can pick them out really well. Dear sir, you are an asshole. A self centered, takes yourself way to seriously variety, I dated this variety before and let’s just say, it aint’ all about you sweetie.

And after dating this kind of guy, for let’s face it, the majority of my adult life, I can proudly say, I would rather sit at home, watching paint dry. It is guys like you that make women like me see that being single and alone can’t be all that bad. I could be stuck with some version of you and spend all of my time listening to all of your problems while mine are deemed unimportant. And really, I would love to have a conversation with the opposite sex that was actually 50/50, give and take. I hope you understand, because right now, I just don’t give a hoot about your wittle feelings being hurt.

It Doesn’t Pay to be a Celebrity

I was at brunch with a friend yesterday and the topic turned to the celebrities dropping like flies. Seriously, if I were famous I would be shaking in my three inch heels right about now.

The local and national news has descended to our fair city to watch a crime scene unfold. Steve McNair was found dead, along with his girlfriend, on the 4th. Let’s just get this part out of the way, okay? Anyone who wants to sleep around, please do but for all that is holy, do not drag your spouse into this mess. Those vows you took? Umm, yeah, you are supposed to take them seriously. If you are unhappy, go to counseling, discuss what is bothering you and then make a decision.

I was young once and was naive enough to believe the crap that is spewed from an older guy. Luckily I was never in this kind of mess but seriously, the girlfriend was 20! Go, live your life and stop chasing after dreams that have already come true. McNair had a family, a wife and all the trappings that come with that.

Unfortunately, I did see McNair several years ago, out and about, living the “single” life. And I literally thought my jaw would never be picked back up off the floor as I sat and watched girl after girl strutting back and forth in front of him, hoping he would say hi and invite her to sit down for a drink. And this was at a restaurant/bar, who knows what went on in actual clubs.

I have seen this part of Nashville, the city that people don’t really know about. I have a friend who is friends with some of the Titans, a manager of country music (high profile) star and a business man who owns bars and restaurants were said “famous” people hang. I have been out with her on a few occasions and while the novelty of hanging out with said people makes for a great story, it also made me leery as the night progressed.

My reality is nowhere near their reality. They have heated swimming pools, people who fetch groceries for a last minute gathering, take care of the bar bills as the party moves to the next location, you get the picture. I don’t get their lifestyle, the endless stream of alcohol or the endless stream of pretty young things ready and willing to do whatever. I am lucky, I was never looked at as a willing participant in a night of debauchery. I was simple J’s friend who was more concerned about getting home instead of where the party was moving to next.

While their generosity was much appreciated (hey, getting a free meal and a couple of drinks is always nice) it never occurred to me to try and hook one of them. I was always thinking about bills that needed to be paid, sleep to be had in order to keep doing my job and the most important, that scene was never me, never will be me. I knew what most of those men wanted and quite frankly, they were never worthy enough for a second glance.

But I do find it sad that there are those who are willing to be the gopher for the chance to hang out with famous. Or those who are willing to dumb themselves down, say yes to everything and wear little to next to nothing in order to be on the outer realm of this lifestyle.

Now we have another celebrity to bury and I can only cringe the next time I hit MSNBC.com and realize another died as well. People have affairs everyday and they don’t realize the consequences to their actions until it is too late. Some are lucky, they only lose the house, the car, the spouse and the kids. Others aren’t as lucky and I guess that is where we will put Steve McNair.
